SILENTSYSTEM HEADPHONE CLEANING AND HYGIENE PROTOCOL
In the Silentsystem technical workshop, wireless headphones used at events undergo a cleaning and sanitisation protocol after every return from rental.
This process is carried out in the technical warehouse before each new use of the equipment, to ensure adequate hygienic conditions and maintain the operational standards of the audio devices.

Guide contents
Why headphone hygiene matters
Wireless headphones used at events are shared devices that come into direct contact with users’ skin. The parts most exposed to contact are the ear cushions, the headband and the controls.
| Headphone part | User contact | Possible contamination |
|---|---|---|
| Ear cushions | Contact with ears and skin | Sweat, skin residue |
| Headband | Contact with hair | Dust and bacteria |
| Buttons and controls | Handling with hands | Bacterial transfer |
For this reason every headphone is cleaned and sanitised in the technical workshop before being distributed again.
Headphone cleaning protocol
The sanitisation process is carried out by trained staff using a standard operating procedure applied after every return from rental.
| Step | Operation | Objective |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Manual surface cleaning | Removal of dirt and residue |
| 2 | Disinfectant application | Reduction of microbial contamination |
| 3 | Drying and ventilation | Preparation for charging |
The sanitisation steps
1. Surface cleaning
Headphone surfaces are manually cleaned with cloths and cleaning solutions to remove usage residue, dust and accumulated dirt.
2. Sanitisation
After cleaning, a disinfectant with fungicidal and bactericidal properties is applied to reduce the microbial load on surfaces.
3. Drying
Headphones are left to dry before being placed in charging systems or transport cases.
Microbiological tests and results
The effectiveness of the cleaning procedure has been verified through microbiological analyses carried out on samples of headphones used during events.
| Surface | Contamination before cleaning | After sanitisation |
|---|---|---|
| Ear cushions | ~280 CFU | ~18 CFU |
| Headband | ~440 CFU | ~9 CFU |
| Transport cases | ~9 CFU/cm² | <0.1 CFU/cm² |
The results demonstrate a significant reduction in microbial contamination following application of the sanitisation protocol.
Cleaning transport cases
The cases used for transporting headphones also undergo cleaning and disinfection in the technical workshop. This prevents contaminated surfaces from re-transferring micro-organisms to sanitised equipment.
Sanitisation during events
In addition to the sanitisation carried out in the technical workshop, in some contexts rapid sanitisation can be performed directly during the event. This service is particularly useful during conferences or congresses with consecutive sessions. Silentsystem technical teams can intervene with the necessary equipment to carry out headphone cleaning between one session and the next.
