Recording Studios: wireless listening across control room, studio and live performance

In recording, radio and TV studios, Silentsystem RF systems let you distribute audio without tying people and workstations to cables.

Recording Studio

Control room, guests, artists, engineers and audience can receive one or more audio programs directly on headphones; in studios that host showcases and concerts, the same infrastructure can also turn the recording space into a live listening environment.

A cable-free audio infrastructure

A professional studio is made up of different spaces and functions: control room, live room, booths, TV sets, radio studios and guest areas. In these settings, audio distribution has to follow people without getting in the way of technical work and without adding cabling where it isn’t needed.

Silentsystem RF systems are used to create wireless listening points throughout the production. The signal can reach engineers, producers, artists, guests and anyone else involved at the same time, leaving them free to move between spaces.

The key point: separating the listening point from the physical workstation. The headphone follows the person, while the control room and production stay in control of the signal being distributed.

02

From the control room to the guests

How it’s used depends on the studio and the production. In a recording studio it can be used to share mixes and playback; in radio, for guests, artists and live sessions; in television, to create wireless listening points on set or in production areas.

Control room and production

Engineers and production staff can receive the audio program on headphones and move between rooms without depending on a wired listening station.

Guests and artists

Headphones can be handed out quickly to guests, artists and everyone involved in the production, with no individual pairing and no need to set up a physical connection at every position.

Radio and broadcast studios

Interviews, music sessions, playback and live content can be heard directly on headphones, keeping the studio’s working space clearer.

TV studios

On TV sets and in TV studios, the system creates wireless listening for guests and production, avoiding extra cabling in areas where freedom of movement and a tidy set matter.

03

When the studio goes live

Recording studios are no longer just places to cut a track. More and more, they’re becoming spaces for showcases, live sessions, listening sessions and concerts with an audience inside the studio.

In these projects, the Silentsystem system plays a different role: the performance signal is delivered straight to the audience’s headphones, making it possible to stage a concert in a space built for recording, not for a traditional sound system.

Studio and venue become the same space. The performance is recorded in the room it was designed for, while the audience experiences it live through dedicated headphone listening.

That’s the idea behind formats and productions like Sound Inside at Basement Records: the intimate character of the studio is preserved, but the session can be shared with an audience without turning the space into a conventional concert hall.

04

Listening and multichannel setups

RF transmission lets multiple headphones receive the same signal at once, with no individual pairing. When the production needs more than one audio stream, the system can be configured across multiple channels, separating programs and listening groups.

Application How the system is used
Recording studio Listening to sessions, playback and production content without tying everyone in the room to wired stations.
Radio studio Delivering the audio program to guests, artists and production during interviews, music sessions and live content.
TV studio Wireless listening for guests and production staff in spaces where cabling can restrict movement or the set layout.
Showcases and live sessions The audience hears the performance recorded in the studio directly on headphones, keeping the recording environment and the listening system separate.
Multichannel productions Multiple audio programs can be delivered over the same RF infrastructure and assigned to different listening groups.
05

From recording to live production

Silentsystem has brought this technology into professional studios and productions with very different needs. Facilities using the systems include Massive Arts Milano and Basement Records, where wireless listening fits into both everyday studio work and special projects and live performances.

In settings like these, technology has to serve the production: setup, number of headphones, channels and coverage are defined around the spaces and the way the control room, artists, guests and audience need to interact with the audio content.

The same wireless infrastructure can support a work session, a shared listening session, or turn the studio into a space for live performance.
